The European Accident Statement is an official document used to report traffic accidents in a clear and standardised way. Filling it out correctly helps speed up the insurance process and avoids misunderstandings.
Using the Forms
Use one set of forms per accident. For example, one set for two vehicles involved, two sets for three vehicles, and so on. Each form comes in two printed copies, and each page contains two columns. Both pages must be filled in exactly the same way. Make sure to use a ballpoint pen and write legibly.
Completing the Accident Report
When filling out the report, refer to your insurance documents for Item 8 (policy or Green Card) and your driving licence for Item 9. Clearly indicate the point of initial impact in Item 10.
Mark a cross next to all relevant facts (Items 1–17, Item 12) and state the total number of items marked. Draw a plan of the accident location in Item 13, including all relevant details.
If possible, provide the name of at least one witness, especially in case of disagreement. Both drivers must sign the accident statement (Item 15). Give one copy to the other driver and keep one for yourself.
After the Accident
Indicate when and where your vehicle can be inspected by an expert. Do not alter anything on the statement under any circumstances. Send the completed form to your insurer immediately.
The European Accident Statement exists in different languages, but all versions contain identical information. The form can also be used if no other vehicle is involved, for example in cases of damage to your own vehicle under comprehensive insurance, or in the event of theft or fire.
Filling out the European Accident Statement correctly ensures a smooth claims process and reduces the risk of disputes with insurance companies or other drivers.
